Background to Tricostar

Tricostar have been leading innovation in the delivery of public sector legal case management and time recording solutions since 1988 and have achieved several notable “firsts” since then.

The first to deliver handheld digital time recording to public sector legal departments in 1988.

In 2005 we launched the first web application for legal case management (called TCM) and shared services in the public sector (built around the global product Sage CRM from Sage PLC). During 2007 TCM became the first corporate Shared Services system across 8 authorities in Suffolk. Suffolk Legal went on to win The Cipfa, Shared Services Award 2007 and then we won The Legal Technology Awards 2008 for the ‘In-House Legal Department Initiative of the Year Award’. From 2007 we started to host our local authority client systems on their behalf.

Alongside our legal services division, in the 90’s, we became a leading software house for Lotus Notes on the back of iSupport (a Lotus Noted helpdesk product) as well as providing major implementations for large organisations and government.

Tricostar understand that all public sector legal departments operate under ever reducing budgets and changes in processes and governance. Our systems are designed to be changed by you as your requirements, processes, or needs change – not designed to be replaced when life moves on. This ability has a dramatic effect on the return on investment for public sector organisations and is why many customers have been with us for well over a decade.

We can put restrictions in place so that certain people cannot see certain cases”.

Our solutions have been 100% web applications since 2005 which has meant that our clients have long been able to operate remotely, securely, efficiently, and without disruption to normal working practices. In fact, the transition from work to home has been as simple as picking up a laptop and working from home.

We now host, manage, and deliver web applications for the majority of our local and central government departments. This hosting experience, of over a decade, has meant we have considerable experience in keeping our sensitive client’s data safe and has led to a new division offering a managed security service in the company, exclusively around data governance and cybersecurity.

We work closely with a partner who has many years’ experience in consulting and training companies who must comply with current global data security and privacy regulations. We now provide an holistic and all-encompassing approach to data security to help organisations not only keep abreast with the latest technologies but coalesce their technical infrastructure with their internal security and data governance policies and procedures, as well as ensuring all necessary compliance (e.g. GDPR) is met.

Our Market

Our UK target markets are:

  • Local and central government legal departments who have a need to work and share remotely with very tight integration with Microsoft Office 365 and SharePoint.
  • Organisations who need to uncover the otherwise undiscovered data in their organisation. Fulfilling DSARs, FOI requests and complying with GDPR and security policies, identifying potential insider threats, alerting to vulnerabilities, managing and reclassifying data – no matter where it resides.
  • Any organisation with cloud infrastructure who want a single unified platform for cost, security and governance issues, comprehensive security and compliance best practices checked and Immediate actionable intelligence without the need for expensive architects.

What Covid has meant for Tricostar and our clients

Covid has accelerated the adoption of cloud based, SaaS applications for our government clients. In Q4 of 2020 and Q1 of 2021 we acquired 5 new TCM clients as a result.

Cyber Security

For clients, whose systems we host and manage, we now offer a small range of key cyber security and cloud products. The biggest advantage of all of them is that they are very simple to rollout with no user friction.

We are now able to offer the following security and cost saving solutions to organisations.

  • Agentless Endpoint Protection – meaning that you are protected from man-in-the-middle attacks and exploits whilst logged into TCM or other websites and apps.
