Smart Transport: Innovation, Sustainability & Skills broadcasts on Sky 189, Sunday 20th March 10:30am.

This programme explores the pioneering innovation and technology behind the growth in smart transport. With driver-less cars widely discussed in the news with the Government recently announcing that driverless car technologies will receive £20m from the Government’s Mobility Fund. IMeche report that the UK could have a fully autonomous fleet as soon as 2050.

This programme explores the range of smart technology developments that are starting to redefine UK transportation and safeguard its future.

We interviewed Transport and Travel Research Ltd, who explained their fascinating research projects into how people interact with transport and how bahavioural change can have a huge impact on the environmental effect of transport. They went on to discuss their project with TFL to introduce a network of electric buses throughout London.

Voltz Bikes discussed the rise of electric vehicles and how they can be integrated more fully within the UK transport network and incorporated into peoples everyday lives. We quizzed them about how the latest technology is enabling more environmentally friendly transportation.

Pertemps Driver Training explore the skills shortage within commercial vehicle drivers and look at the training and skills generation needed to make this sector sustainable. They talk about the need to invest in this to pass on the skills of the ageing workforce before they’re lost.
