Universities and Industry Documentaries
Posted on: 18/03/2015
Last Saturday we interviewed leading Motorsport figures at Bolton Universities Centre for Advanced Precision Engineering (CAPE). An array of high-end motorcars was on display at the open-day for this innovative centre. We are filming a series of documentaries exploring how Universities partner with prominent industry bodies to improve the employability of their students. Engineering students at Bolton University work alongside experts from RLR Motorsport and Ginetta in the classroom, race-track and workshop.
Bolton is the first UK University to have an in-house, fully-functioning race team on campus. Providing students with facilities like these goes a long way to ensure they have the hands-on experience to overcome the demands of this industry. We spoke to one second year engineering student who said that these facilities “offer a head-start on other engineering courses”.
Engineering is a demanding, pressurised career where mistakes can cost lives. We asked Mike Simpson, Chief Race Driver at Ginetta, about the importance of centres like these to train the next generation of engineering talent.
Throughout this open-day we sensed a real excitement among the students, engineers and race drivers about this centre. Each interviewee clearly believed that partnerships between University and industry are extremely beneficial to all concerned. Equipping students with the best experience and training helps to turn them into valuable engineers who will sustain and develop the industry.
We are looking for other University courses with similar successful partnerships with industry to feature on this series. Please email us at email@example.com if you would like more information about appearing on this series.
