How fire suppression is benefitting the environment

Last month’s Recycling Waste Management Exhibition (RWM) was a platform for 750 innovative RWM companies to share industry advances, best practices and to show off what they do. We interviewed Fireward about their fire suppression systems and how they are advancing the RWM industry and protecting the environment.
Their preventative systems are a far quicker way of extinguishing fires before they take hold. They specialise in protecting machinery and vehicles that are operating in hazardous environments. All heavy machinery becomes hot and there is a danger of sudden combustion. These fires are extremely dangerous, costly and detrimental to efficiency. Fireward’s fire suppression systems automatically detect the fire and extinguish it within seconds, without damaging machinery or workplaces.
Technical Director, Jamie Green talked us through the science behind the systems. He showed us thin plastic tubes of liquid, which were so sensitive to heat that the liquid bubbled from the warmth of our hands. Their system works in a similar way and when it reaches a certain heat the tube pops and the extinguishing agent is dispatched in the exact direction of the heat. This is a dramatically quicker and safer way to extinguish fires than man-operated fire extinguishers or sprinkler systems. The system provides almost instantaneous protection and protects a company’s employees and assets.
Fireward are appearing on our programme ‘A green approach to business’ alongside other industry leaders who demonstrate environmental excellence. Jamie was very passionate about Fireward’s role in reducing carbon emissions, by preventing industrial fires, which would have huge detrimental effects for the environment. Carbon emissions and the destruction of wildlife are two key drivers in Fireward’s commitment to preventing fires.
